by | Jul 20, 2024 | About Bowen College, History of Bowen, Jihan Adem | 0 comments

Bowen College UK is part of an international network of dedicated Bowen therapists and educators, committed to excellence in holistic training. Founded by Jihan Adem, the college aims to deliver top-notch education in Bowen Therapy, drawing on Jihan’s extensive experience and a global network of specialists.

The Founder’s Journey

Jihan Adem first encountered the wonders of Bowen Therapy shortly after its introduction to the UK in 1995. This profound experience ignited a passion that led her to become one of the first, and youngest, practitioner-teachers of Bowen in the country. Over the years, Jihan has gained international recognition, collaborating with leading anatomy and physiology specialists to deepen her understanding of the human body.

“The Bowen community around the world continues to grow every year. It is wonderful to see how it is developing over time. When we first met the technique back in the 90’s in the UK, most people had not heard of it. Now we have this college dedicated to achieving professional standards in therapy and education built on decades of experience from multiple tutors across multiple continents. Bowen is one of the most popular treatment modalities currently being learnt in the UK. For the relatively short amount of time it has been taught for, in comparison to ancient Chinese medicine such as Acupuncture for example, it is going from strength to strength and the number of practitioners training are so encouraging.”

Jihan Adem, Founder of Bowen College UK

Jihan’s passion for Bowen Therapy led her to teach in the UK and Europe for nearly two decades. She also teaches fascia anatomy through dissection and was part of the international team that created the world’s first fascia-focussed human plastinate, FR. Her involvement with the Fascial Net Plastination Project and ongoing collaborations with the Fascia Research Society allow Bowen College to deliver the latest advances in fascial understanding, a key feature of why Bowen works so effectively.

Our Mission

At Bowen College, we nurture an environment where healthcare practitioners and therapists facilitate profound healing, starting with the body-mind connection. Our philosophy is thriving, not just surviving, and we aim to ignite transformational shifts in perception, aligning health and global consciousness.

We are dedicated to creating professional therapists who possess the knowledge, proficiency, and drive to improve the lives of their clients. Our mission, supported by our workshop leaders and tutors worldwide, is to build a community of healers in every household.

“I absolutely love the moment when people who have come into the training room make the discovery that they too can positively impact the health of the person in front of them with Bowen. As Bowen is a therapy that carries so few contraindications, I feel passionately that we should make this wonderful technique as widely available as possible and I am committed to raising the standards of Bowen Therapy Education. And what’s more, we have a wonderful team of teachers to teach and share this incredible work throughout the UK.”

A Unique Approach to Bowen Training

Bowen College UK is dedicated to raising the standards of Bowen Education in the UK, offering the most comprehensive level of study to ensure the highest standards are met. Our training reflects efforts in both standardisation and individualisation of treatments, aiming to strengthen the capacity of people to create value and effect positive transformation.

“Having thoroughly enjoyed teaching Bowen for so many years now, I have never fallen out of love with this modality. I also feel very passionate that the mind is respected as a valid place to start to understand the seat of someone’s disease. Yes, it is desperately important to have a good understanding anatomically of the structures that you’re working with when performing treatment but it is also completely necessary to understand how the entire system works. Finally here in the UK, at Bowen College, we are able to present to you a system that looks at and teaches not only about how the body works and how the body responds to bodywork but also how the mind works – and opportunities to train in both arenas.”
